Thanksgiving 2010

Doesn't seem quite possible that Thanksgiving is here already. Course it doesn't seem possible that my beloved father has been dead now for 5 years either. Tomorrow, November 24 would have been his 87 birthday. I think I'd faint if anyone remembed this besides me. He wasn't perfect and had faults but who doesn't. Honestly that man could get me so mad I could scream but yet as I type this, tears are running down my face because I miss him...quite a bit too. As I've gotten older and both my daddy and grandmother have died not to mention several aunts and uncles that I was fond of, I am still very fortunate to have my mother, 2 aunts and an uncle left. Not to mention several cousins and other relates. AND I dare not forget all my adopted family on my husbands side. I am incredibly blessed and know it!

I really REALLY wish I could lavish my family with all kinds of presents for their birthdays and Christmas and for no reason except that I saw something that made me think of them and bought it. But I cannot do that and try to build a house. I tend to drive my poor husband crazy when he gets the credit card statement or I come up and tell him "Honeybunch...uhhh...I need to tell you something". Ron then stops whatever he's doing and looks at me and says "what have you bought NOW?" Usually its a pair of Crocs for under $20 because I always call him for purchases OVER $20 and are NOT Crocs. Then he smiles and says "oh ok" and goes back to whatever he's doing. Yes, I am SO VERY blessed!

Right now my mother has called me. She is down visiting her new granddaughter down in TN for Thanksgiving. I miss her too...but I am so glad she is having a great time with her first grandbaby.

Blessed I am...to say the very least!

It is my hope and prayer that whoever is bored enough to read this have a most wonderful Thanksgiving. Think of me and Ron...we will be working on the manor...and eating PB&J perhaps! Turkey is just SO overrated! lol

Until next time...

What happened to Autumn?!?!

Have any of you noticed that we've gone from nice warm temps in the 70's to bone chill'n cold, wet rain and temps in the upper 40's?

WHERE DID THE WARM AUTUMN WEATHER GO!?!??!

Honestly, I left Friday for our annual church conference's women's retreat (which by the way was awesome) and by the time I got home early Sunday afternoon...the wind was blowing and it was misting rain...sigh...

Me thinketh the "white stuff" isn't far behind...YUCK!!!!

Oh and when I ask the hubs when are we going to turn the propane heater on..."October 15 sounds like a good date to me". To which I replied "Oh...October 3 sounds like a MUCH better date to me"...he laughed...and is STILL laughing.

Sincerely,
A partially frozen puddle from Toad Hill Manor in search of hot chocolate!

I know...

how horrible I am at blogging.

Things around the manor have been V E R Y - S L O W to say the least. I do have photo's but not sure if I still have photo's due to my main computer died over the summer.

I will be busy over this current weekend but hope sometime very soon to have a nice quiet evening to update everything that needs updating.

Have a blessed Autumn!

Father's Day 2010

Ron and I celebrated Father's Day by working on the house. Our friends came over and with the 2 men, managed to rip some more of the old roof off in the morning before it became too hot then they moved down into the new kitchen and did the wiring and put up some dry wall.

All in all it was a VERY good day!

Ron had off the following Monday (technically Sunday was also WV's 147 birthday but since it was on a weekend, WV employees got Monday as an "in lieu of" day off) and he was able to do even more dry wall hanging. I took off that afternoon and Ron and I took mother to Lowes and purchased "canned lights", a ceiling fan, more outlets and switches, a range hood and a bunch of boxes to put the outlets/switches in...whew...just wearing me out doing all this typing...golly!

Hope each of you had as good if not better Father's Day...Daddy I know if you were still with us...you'd a been right in the middle helping! I sure do miss having you around...hope to see you one day in Heaven...

Ron's Spring Break Grand Finale

This year, Spring Break happened to fall on the week that Ron didn't have to worry about payroll so he put in to take off the whole week. He was also given "Good Friday" and "Easter Monday" so he ended up only needing 3 days and 3 hours of leave.

Oh he had talked of this and that he wanted to take care of and he actually made pretty good progress...until yesterday afternoon (Sunday, April 11). That's when he subconsciously decided he HAD to return to work with a boo-b00 to prove he'd been working! And boy did he end up with a good'n!

Earlier his buddy had changed out the blade on the utility knife they'd been using to cut the drywall when necessary and shortly ended up slicing his own finger! After bandaging him up, and eating lunch, I don't recall where exactly I was when I hear a "Annie...Ron dang near cut his finger off!" OH NO!!!! I dashed out and sure enough there was enough blood to make someone think a heinous stabbing had occurred. I told Ron to run to the bathroom and run cold water over his finger...that didn't work...hmmm...I ran and pulled several paper towels and grabbed his hand and while trying not to inflict further pain on him, thrust his arm up over his head trying to get it to stop that way...ehhh...at least it slowed down bleeding. I spritzed it with peroxide and that even helped more in stopping the blood flow until I was able to get a bandaid on it.

By the time we got to bed, I'd changed his bandage 2 more times (you can't keep a good, hard-working man down) and even this morning before I left for work, this time using some gauze UNDER the bandaid!

I can hear his co-worker's now... "RON...Good heavens...what on earth did you do!?!" when he got in to work this morning...POOR RON!!!

I'm just thankful that he didn't get hurt worse...

Spring Break

Sorry I've not posted anything here in a couple of months. Winter was brutal!

So far, my beloved RG has been busy putting up drywall. He and his buddy have completed our bedroom/closet to the point that it needs "mudding/sanding/painting" and have also put up drywall in the front foyer of the house. Plus they have gotten quite a bit of wiring done as well. And that has been just this week mind you!

Tune in soon for the next installment!

Winter Winter Go AWAY!!!

Good morning!

As I type this, I can see the wonderful warm sunshine but if I were to head outside...whoa baby...bone chill'n cold! Over the past month of January, we've experienced 2 decent snow storms. Not quite as "over the top" as the December 18th storm but still, noteworthy.

What is so amazing in this is that starting January 4th, I began a new journey in my job working 10 hour days. Most folks working 10 hour days take the same "day off" (and it's usually a Friday each week) but my boss requested that I take off the 1st Friday and the 2nd Monday of our payroll's "pay period". What could I say? He was permitting me to work the 10 hour days primarily because the big boss offered this work schedule to our inspectors and in my bosses eyes, being I support the inspector's, should be allowed to work 1o hour days if I ask, well...within certain parameters. So every other week end I have 4 days off (sweet huh?). However, the first "Friday" I was off, we got hammered with snow and the boss called a snow day. Yep, had I been working my old schedule, I'd have gotten the day off anyways. Then the next Friday I got off, we were expecting an ice storm and was even released early that Thursday (and YES! they did work that Friday!). Fortunately, where I live, it hovered around 36-39 degrees and we had rain.

Now this past weekend. Some of us where I worked quietly monitored the weather reports but we were blessed that we didn't get hit like all those folks did in Oklahoma. Wow, the photo's from there were amazing. Really did remind me of the weekend that Ron and I got married back in 2003...really REALLY bad ice. The weather folks said we'd get 4-6, mebbe 8 inches and yep, that's what we ended up with by Saturday night. Down in southern WV, where my boss lives, they picked up a cool foot of snow. Apparently it was bad enough in Mingo County (sw-WV) that school was cancelled for today but most other counties only did the 2 hour delays.

So now I'm up with the title of todays blog...I doubt I'm alone in my sentiments either...lol

I just double dog dare that wretch little groundhog to see his shadow tomorrow...
